On both Socotra and in Oman we have always worked to protect the local natural environment, wildlife and natural resources and to provide authentic experiences for our clients that both celebrate and conserve the local heritage and culture. We partner with local NGOs operating on Socotra, to support a number of carefully selected conservation projects. Socotra Island Expeditions makes donations to these projects from the profits of each expedition we run. In addition, we offer clients the opportunity to also donate to Socotra’s conservation and to get involved with these projects on their stay on the island.
LATEST PROJECT: Socotra Island Expeditions are pleased to announce that we are working to protect the Soqotri Language, via the development of an app to ensure the preservation of this severely endangered South Semitic language. Soqotri is spoken by the Soqotri people on the island of Socotra and the two nearby islands of Abd al Kuri and Samhah. It is one of six languages that form a group called Modern South Arabian languages. We are pleased to assist in it’s preservation as the language’s survival plays a key role in Soqotri folklore heritage conservation.
